上海市世外小学创办于1993年，是由上海市徐汇区政府与社会各界共同创办的一所公立转制学校。2005年8月学校转为民办学校，均瑶集团王均金任学校董事长，王小平任副董事长，张悦颖担任校长兼支部书记。学校属于民办非企业单位，实行董事会领导下的校长负责制，是上海市事业类社会公益一类文明单位。2013年受徐汇区教育局委托还承办了公办康健外国语实验小学。学校有东西两个校区。东校区占地12050平方米，校舍建筑面积8272平方米，其中10间专用教室，2间阅览室总面积156平方米，室内外运动场地面积4282平方米；西校区占地10665平方米，校舍面积6072平方米，其中6间专用教室，1间面积为148平方米的阅览室，1间实验室，室内外运动场地面积3498平方米。学校图书馆生均藏书量为46本/人，拥有的设施设备资产总值为5873068.16元。学校分为三个部门：境内部、双语部、融合（PYP）部。共有教学班55个，学生1647名。全校教职工149人，专职教师137人，师生比为1:12；专职教师中，中高级教师9人，占总数的7%；学历大学本科以上的有129人，占总数的94%；退休返聘专任教师2人，占比为1.5%。
